On November 10, 1860 Philadelphia Baptist
Church had it's beginning in a log building on
John Albright’s farm just a short distance from
our present location. The Church had 10
charter members who lettered in from
Macedonia Baptist Church.
In 1851 a group of 50-plus settlers traveled to
this area from the Lost Creek settlement near
Knoxville TN. They had journeyed to this area
to join other family members and friends who
had previously settled near Jonesboro.
Philadelphia Baptist Church is located on land
that once belonged to John Albright, who had
donated several acres of his property where the
church now sits.
During the church’s early history, the church
met in a log building on the Albright's farm for
about 3 or 4 year’s before a new building was
erected on the site where the church now stands.
Another building was constructed in 1887 and
was remodeled in 1939. The present sanctuary
was built in 1953 by church members, the
sanctuary was remodeled in 1976 and enlarged
in 1983. An educational building was added in
1961. The Family Life Center with gymnasium,
kitchen and educational space, was built in
1981.
Many men have had the opportunity and
privilege to serve as pastor at Philadelphia
Baptist Church.
